Just let the curtain rises on what you've become.

hope-filled pawns with just one chance to cover our realm in glitter
so just let us, dammit.

I've thought a long time about me & you.
The time we have.
& exactly why the world will kneel & fall
just so.
If we truly are
anti-heroes
& caution signes
& lost children
ready for the book to close
because it's just too fucking easy to read.

Now we throw our heads back to laugh
life's a joke because everyone's expecting a fairy tale.
& no one's getting it.
But we really
got the point
& remembered
& paid attention
when the world decided to have a breakdown & tell us that it would all end
in a heartbeat.

Now where are we, if not atop acres of black & white squares
Even if no one has enough patience to ask,
what the hell are we?
Listen carefully,
to the whisper in your ear.

Amnesia, capability, tacticians, gamers, card sharks, jokers, cheaters, clowns, hipsters, mainstream yuppie teenybopper bubblegum pop lovers, readers of people magazine, bricks in the wall, political politicians, economists, alpha dogs, underdogs, little guys, gentle giants, schmucks, bastards, liars, homeless people, infants, engineers, liars, snake-oil salesman, street performers, rappers, soldiers, evolutionists, Mormons, preps, jocks, skaters, scene kids, straight boys, hopeless romantics, betrothed.
We are also none of these things.
We are simply alive.
